adds senior executive level expertise in project management, team development, and operations
ROCKVILLE, MD, January 16, 2019 – The Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) and its board are pleased to welcome Bill Tompkins as Chief Operating Officer. Bill brings to Montgomery County a strong corporate and trade association background, having served in multiple senior level roles for Fortune 500 and other organizations.
Bill’s previous positions include President & CEO of the National Newspaper Publishers Association, Vice President & General Manager of Eastman Kodak, and Vice President of Marketing for the Washington Post. Bill brings to MCEDC expertise in building public-private partnerships, strategic planning and execution, and enhancing operations, skillsets that will broaden MCEDC’s economic development growth for Montgomery County. He is a results-driven executive with global business experience.

His career working for Fortune 500 companies has resulted in a unique, grounded approach to implementation that will benefit the organization significantly,” said MCEDC President & CEO, David Petr.

The board is excited to see what we will be able to accomplish in the coming years with this addition to the team.”
He is also passionate about giving back to the community, most recently serving as Chairman of the Board for Washington, D.C.-based Mosaic Theater Company, and previously serving on boards for the Boys and Girls Clubs and The Studio Theatre, among others.
Bill holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University and Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University. He has been a Montgomery County resident for more than 40 years and begins his new position at MCEDC effective immediately.
