FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
APRIL 8, 2019
ROCKVILLE, MD, April 8, 2019 – Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation President and CEO, David Petr, has decided to step down at the end of his 3-year term this fall, following three transformative years at the helm. Petr will be relocating to Texas for family reasons.
Petr is the inaugural President and CEO of the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation. He is responsible for building the organization from a start-up to a high-performing public/private partnership with a business-centric strategic plan, award-winning marketing program, and a robust business development pipeline. He was recognized by the Washington Business Journal as one of the “Power 100” in October 2018, thirteen months after joining the MCEDC.
Under his leadership, the MCEDC has announced $375M of capital investment in the county and spearheaded strategies to retain 3,870 positions and attract 1,340 new jobs. Furthermore, Petr was instrumental in the competitive pitch for Amazon’s second headquarters, positioning Montgomery County successfully to land in the top 20 finalists, the only county in the nation to make the list.
Chairman of the Board, Bob Buchanan noted “David has elevated the Montgomery County brand regionally and nationally, and has created a strong foundation that we can build upon. He has assembled a strong team and a smart strategic plan that we will continue to execute upon to create results for the county.”
Petr commented “Until the end of my term, my focus will be to capitalize on recent business recruitment efforts, deliver on our most significant strategic initiatives, and establish a strong and sustainable private fundraising plan. We have too much momentum at the MCEDC to do anything less than to execute boldly.”
Petr will continue as President and CEO through early September. The Governance Committee of the MCEDC will lead the executive search for Petr’s successor.
