FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

—    David Petr to make announcement at National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence on April 5 —

Rockville, Md. — Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) CEO David Petr will announce five new strategic initiatives designed to better position the County as a world-renowned cybersecurity ecosystem and serve as the framework to guide MCEDC’s strategic plans moving forward. The announcement will be made at a cybersecurity panel discussion at the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence at 9700 Great Seneca Highway in Rockville on April 5 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The announcement is the result of work that began last summer when the MCEDC Board of Directors identified cybersecurity as a target industry and commissioned a report by Amplifier Advisors, “Building a Cybersecurity Industry in Montgomery County.” The report was submitted to the board in September 2016.

Immediately following, MCEDC convened a group of business executives that consisted of local CEOs and cybersecurity experts and tasked the group with vetting the report and making recommendations to ensure Montgomery County was seen as a global player in cybersecurity.

The cyber security market as a whole is estimated to grow from $122.45 billion in 2016 to $202.36 billion by 2021, according to a report by Market and Market, the world’s largest market research firm.

“Given Montgomery County’s proximity to the nation’s capital and the federal government, combined with our highly educated workforce, we are well-positioned and the logical choice to become the cyber capital of the world,” said MCEDC CEO Petr. “This plan is the first step in making that dream a reality.”

Added Petr, “These strategic priorities have been driven by business executives who have clearly outlined what their current and future cybersecurity needs are to ensure they remain relevant and grow in the future.”

Petr will present MCEDC’s new local initiatives at the end of the session at 2:45 p.m. Media are invited to attend and cover the event but are requested to register in advance by contacting Karen Addis at karen@vaneperen.com or 301-787-2394.
