ROCKVILLE, Md. — A broad range of 49 Montgomery County, Maryland companies made the list in this year’s annual Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing privately-owned companies in the United States. The recognized companies span industries that include software, IT system development, health, biotech, consumer products, advertising & marketing, construction, government services and financial services.

Among the Montgomery County companies, there is a prevalence in software, healthcare/bio and government services—a natural fit with access to one of the country’s most highly  educated workforces and local proximity to world-class federal research institutions in science, health, medicine and cybersecurity such as NIST, NIH, FDA and NCCOE.

Reaffirming the strength of Montgomery County’s workforce, a recent report from the Information Technology Industry Council ranked Maryland’s 8th Congressional district, which is dominated by Montgomery County, as the nation’s leader in science and engineering jobs. The report also found the 8th district’s 52,000 STEM workers are triple the national median.

Montgomery County leads all jurisdictions in Maryland with the largest number of Inc. 5000 companies—accounting for a third of the state’s 149 fastest-growing companies on this year’s list. The number of Montgomery County companies ranked in 2020 increased by 20 percent from 2019.

The 2020 Inc. 5000 list ranks companies by overall revenue growth over a three-year period from 2016-2019, with a median growth of 165 percent. The Montgomery County companies registered revenue growth ranging from 62 percent to almost 3,000 percent.
